It's already time to mark your calendars for next month's First Friday! May's Featured Artist will be Josh Audiss! The event will start at 6 PM at the Curbside Clothing Old Market store in Omaha and will end at 10. Josh will be there displaying original art along with his Curbside Designs, so come by, check it out, and partake in the festivities with us!

If you're not familiar with Tobias, he is a tattoo artist out of Omaha and does a lot of work at the Tenth Sanctum Tattoo Shop along with J Barnett and Dave Koenig. Between Marisa's style and her subject matter, we think she makes a great addition to the team! We already released two of Marisa's designs, Rattlesnake Violin and The Raven's Drum, on CurbsideClothing.com, with four more designs coming soon. Stay tuned for more to come!

The fact that it's an anthropomorphic raccoon could have many meanings. Maybe the raccoon is a stand-in for us, the viewers. Maybe Tobias just likes raccooons! Any way you look at it, the fact remains that it's a great design that Tobias put a lot of love into.

Eric, who describes himself as an "unabashed cat person", couldn't resist drawing up this feisty little guy when the opportunity arose. Through his wizardry with graphic design, he has created this work of art that is sure to catch an eye or two. A side-note from the artist: "Cat butts are never, ever NOT hilarious."

Either way, you can't downplay just how great of a design this is, with the intricacies of the tree's branches and roots and the way Josh has experimented with lighting in the glowing orbs. You have GOT to see it on a shirt!

Dave has done it again, creating this great new piece through his artistic prowess. But this isn't just a beautiful design displaying the bond between a woman and her wolf. Dave created this piece for a raffle with the proceeds going to help Zach, a man who has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. Each stone is worked into the pattern of the seahorse's skin, but the swirls of bursting colors separate each one from the other. At first glance, one might think they could just reach out and feel the cold smoothness of the stones.

The main theme for this design was the idea of having a Spirit Animal. In this case, it's a "lone wolf", but everyone has their own. What's yours?

Josh's use of the vibrant blues pairs well with the gentle flow of his lines to illustrate this theme. Who knew it was possible to make a sloth - the chillest creature in the animal kingdom - look even more relaxing!

This Eric Nyffeler design depicts one of these moths along with an acorn and a fern. Again, a simple concept, but Eric's expert use of graphic design brings all of these elements together to create this piece that you won't want to miss out on!

The wyrm's snake-like body makes it the perfect subject to create this wrap-around pattern that Eric has used, while also inserting his stylized eyes in the negative space. If you follow the colors of the the wyrms body, you will see that it's a gradient, moving from warm to cool colors, but the colors themselves never clash.

This mythical beast will be available soon, but we still have more art to show you until then! So, stay tuned!

Joe did this piece by inking the design and then going in and digitally adding the colors. This is a process that he has been doing more and more with his work, making both the lines and the colors nice and crisp.

Handshake has a bit of a Yin and Yang feel to it with the opposite hands crossing from different ends to join with a key. What do these elements, from the hands to the key, symbolize to you?

This design is a little bit of a departure from J's other work, which he traditionally paints, but the composition alone is what you would expect from him. On a shirt, the bugs come to life - almost literally - with their bright colors and shading, which gives them somewhat of a 3D effect.

This design was originally used as a gig poster for The Black Keys when they stopped in Winnipeg for their world tour. Eric, who has done designs for the band in the past, says he wanted to "pull out all the stops and really put together something special" for this piece. It's safe to say he did just that.

When paired with Eric's stylized grittiness, the sea serpent and shipwreck make a haunting scene that makes a great design, whether it's a gig poster or a t-shirt!

To say we are excited to be able to print Eric's work on our shirts is an understatement. Over the next year, we will be releasing 12 of Eric's designs for your viewing and wearing pleasure, but more are planned for the future! So, stay tuned!

This piece is very much like J's previous designs, namely Jelly and Hummingbird, in that the subject is pretty simple, but the amount of detail he went into is what makes it so great. Each feather and talon has enough enough shading and extra detail to make the bird stylistically J's without losing anything when it's printed on a shirt.

This wraps it up for our new art for September. Purchase this as well as our other great new designs in the Curbside Store on September 15th (TOMORROW)!

Because of this, J wanted to paint one of these dancers. Much like his Kali design, J painted this dancer, focusing on the intricate headdresses and jewelry they wear because of how important they are from a cultural standpoint.

He has also used a couple of the important elements and iconography that are related to her. For example, in the ornate border that Dave is known to use in his pieces, he has put an owl and a snake, both of which are often associated with the goddess. More specifically, Owls, which are typically thought to be wise, have historically been associated with Athena, with one usually sitting on her shoulder.

Collecting insects is a hobby that J shares with his daughter. J brings her to a local park every Sunday in search of cicadas, finding some that have died and some that are just hatching. Because of his passionate interest in them, J is able to put in some of the most intricate details in these insects, making each one unique.

The robot is there to highlight contrasting choices we make and the reasons why we make them: "Are you making choices because of conditioned/programmed attitudes adopted by society or because of something less definable like intuition and the workings of the heart?" 

In this sense, the robot represents indecision as he has been thinking about his choices for so long, a tree has begun to grow around him. The ravens, then, have to do with looking to the past and speculating on the future to help make these decisions.

What started out as a simple pencil illustration has become the stunning work of art you see before you. This design is a melting pot of different inspirations, but it has a heavy Buddhist influence. From the symbolism behind the fig tree, to the scattered eyes in the branches, this illustration is meant to convey the act of opening the mind's eye. What other symbolism can you find?

This honeycomb design in particular is very interesting in that it is a study in symmetry and geometry in a subject from nature. It can sometimes be tricky for an artist to be able to meld these ideas together without having them clash, but Joe did this seamlessly.

This time around, Dave created this beautiful elk piece. We've mentioned this before, but he is a tattoo artist, so his style involves thick lines to make the subject pop while also working in the little details here and there to make it more intricate. There's always more going on in a Dave Koenig design than what you might see at first glance.

It's been a while since we've seen anything new from Justin as he's been working hard to complete his first year of his MFA program in Athens, GA. He actually has an exhibition ("Overt Revert") currently on display in the Willson Center for Humanities & Arts through June. So, if you're in the area, stop in and see what he's been up to!

Empathy is another great piece by Josh that toes the line between the cerebral and the emotional - the real and the fantastical. What does it represent to you? Heartbreak? The act of healing? Mike Zimmerman was busy producing 5 of those designs: Floating Kingdom, Space Camp, Pint Sized, Buck Moon, and Spaceship. Each of them are unique in their own way, but it's not hard to tell that they are Mike's from his use of taking retro images from yesteryear and putting his own spin on them to make something creative and fresh.

Dave Koenig created Lady and the Swan. Even if you're not familiar with Dave's stuff, it doesn't take long for one to see he is a tattoo artist, a skill set that translates itself well for designs meant to be printed on a t-shirt or inked on skin.

Cardinal & Buck comes to you courtesy of another tattoo artist, J Barnett. Many artists nowadays (including our own) use digital platforms, but J primarily paints his pieces for us, which allows for more texture in the colors and a boldness in his line-work.

We also put out Music Man, our second design from new Curbside Artist, Joe Nicholson. Just like his first piece, Dandelion Man, Music Man is both surreal and imaginative and leaves us excited to see what he comes up with next.

Long-time Curbside Artist, Josh Audiss, created Koi Balance. Josh's subject matter can range anywhere from the natural scenes with wildlife to dream-like fantasy, but, whether it's hanging in a gallery or printed on a shirt, his stuff always looks stunning

Last but not least, Adam Hogan created the last 3 of our new designs in the store: T Rex, The Traveler, and Imagination. Adam's work can't be defined by any one piece, but what these three all have in common is that they all invoke that sense of child-like wonder that we still carry in adulthood.
